This piece emerged from an experiment; I wanted to explore the ways in which I might invigorate a simple chord progression through rhythmic interplay. I began in the middle (as one does) with the melody you hear in the violin at measure 77, harmonized with an arpeggiated chord progression played by the winds. These harmonies, in turn, circle around to form the basis of the opening, which iterates the progression in a playful hocketed pattern. The secondary progression receives similar treatment, occurring first in a slower, lyrical passage, before returning more energetically in the climax. The overall effect is like dancing light, hence the title.
